CHENNAI, JAN 15: Justice Shivraj Virupanna Patil, acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, has been elevated as Chief Justice and posted to the Rajasthan High Court.Justice Patil became acting Chief Justice following the transfer of Madras High Court Chief Justice M S Liberhan to Andhra Pradesh recently.
Justice N K Jain, ranking second in seniority on the Bench, will be the acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court now.
According to a communication from the President, Justice Patil has been appointed Chief Justice of Rajasthan with effect from the date he assumes charge. He is likely to assume charge on January 21.
The Bench and the Bar of the Madras High Court will bid farewell to Justice Patil at 11 am on January 19.
With the elevation and transfer of Justice Patil to Rajasthan, the strength of the Bench has come down to 30, against the sanctioned strength of 42.
