The Maharashtra Darshan Project competition was organised on January 13 by the joint efforts of the education department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the committee of the head of teachers of R-north ward. The competition, held at the St Francis D'Assisi school, Borivli, was inaugurated by the education committee chairperson Sadhana Mane and education officer Bhau Gawande.

Hawkers to stage morcha

Hawkers from the B, C, D and E wards will hold a morcha followed by a 48-hour dharna in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, zone II, K Ventakesh. They are agitating against the massive hike in fines imposed on hawkers ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000. In a press release, the Bombay Hawkers' Union condemned Venkatesh's orders to put hawkers behind bars if they returned to hawking after warnings. The morcha will be held at 11 am at Byculla.

Giants Group Kalyan unit president

The Public Relations Officer of the Kalyan district BJP,Hemal Rawani, has been appointed as president of the Giants Group of Kalyan. Rawani and his team will take over at a function on January 20, where ministers Jagannath Patil and Prakash Mehta, along with former Member of Parliament Ram Kapse will be present.

Teachers' unions join hands

Junior college teachers affiliated to the Bombay University College Teachers' Union (BUCTU) have decided to enrol themselves as members of the Mumbai Junior College Teachers' Union (MJCTU) with immediate effect, according to a press release issued on Wednesday. The decision was taken to strengthen the ongoing indefinite strike of junior college teachers. Meanwhile, office-bearers of the Association of Non-Government Colleges will be meeting Sudhir Joshi, school education minister, on Friday to appeal to the government to find a solution to the strike.
