CHANDIGARH, Jan 15: The Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has decided to create infrastructure for the Sector 39 Grain Market for which Rs 50 lakh have already been released against the total cost of Rs 2.25 crore.The decision to this effect was taken by the committee at its meeting held here today after it was passed amidst protests by a section of the councillors. The work would be completed within the next one year. The money released would be used for construction of roads, parks, platforms, laying of sewerage pipes and providing other civic amenities. The committee has approved money for the purchase of machinery.
Although the infrastructure would be created by the corporation, the money earned through the auction would be used by the UT Administration.
The meeting also allowed the corporation to invest Rs 23.85 lakh for the construction of cycle tracks in Sectors 11, 15, 24 and 37 to 41. The construction work would be undertaken by private contractors.
Besides, sanitation work in the Sector 31 colony, Colony No. 4 and Sector 25 colony and Manimajra Motor Markets has been privatised.
