SGPC members sign appeal to Jathedar

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AMRITSAR, Jan 15: Several members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today signed a letter to be submitted to Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh requesting him to summon the Editor of Ajit, a Punjabi daily published from Jalandhar, at the Akal Takht for confronting the "hukamnama" issued on December 31 and harming the panthic interests.

This is considered to be a counter-offensive to the move of the Parkash Singh Badal group which is approaching SGPC members to sign a written appeal to the Akal Takht Jathedar seeking to review the "hukamnama" on the Akali Dal feud.

It is learnt that majority of the SGPC members have signed the appeal.Meanwhile, the SGPC has written to the Press Council of India complaining against the paper. It alleged that the paper had been unleashing a vilification campaign against the SGPC and the Akal Takht, the supreme religious-cum temporal seat of the Sikhs.
