Nigerian lynched for bid to kidnap girl at Mira Road

MUMBAI, JAN 16: A Nigerian was beaten to death while allegedly trying to kidnap a seven-year-old girl at Mira Road on Thursday.

According to Mira Road police, the Nigerian, Abi Ilola Dabo Nalvalu (35), was beaten up by around 150 people while he was trying to kidnap the girl near Geeta Arcade in Shimla Complex, Mira Road, at around 1.30 pm.

Police sources added the mob, which mostly comprised parents of students from a school nearby got furious when news of the kidnapping spread, and attacked the Nigerian. He was fisted and kicked before the police could intervene, sources said.

The victim was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. No arrests have been made so far, police said.

Investigations revealed that Navalu, who possessed a Nigerian passport, was a regular visitor to the city, and stayed at Colaba and at times, Mira Road.In an another case, the Khar police this afternoon arrested a watchman in connection with stabbing two maidservants and escaping with Rs 25,000on January 5.

According to investigating officer inspector Vilas Pawar, the accused Manoj Kumar Mishra broke down during interrogation and confessed to his crime. The squad is trying to recover the valuables, Pawar added. The incident took place on the second floor apartment of Gyan Ghar Building on 14th Road, Khar, where Mishra was employed as watchman.
