ACB probe into Gholap's assets

  • Special Sessions Judge Mridula Bhatkar trying anti-corruption cases today directed the Director, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate allegations of corruption against Social Welfare Minister Babanrao Gholap and his wife Shashikala. The judge in her order directed the report be submitted on or before April 21, 1999. On January 11, social worker Milind Yavatkar filed a complaint at Sessions Court seeking an ACB inquiry into vast tracts of land purchased by Gholap.

    Harbour link work to start

  • Construction for the Trans-Harbour Link (TBL) connecting Mumbai city with Nhava Sheva across the harbour will start this year, Public Works Department Minister Nitin Gadkari said today. The Rs 4,500-crore TBL will be 18.40 kms long with 13.30 kms long bridge over Arabian Sea, 4.5 kms road and .70 kms long flyover. The link will have six lanes connecting Sewree and Nhava Sheva across harbour. (UNI)

    Another plea on Bhagwat in HC

  • Close on theheels of High Court rejecting a public interest litigation that sought material on basis of which former Naval Chief Vishnu Bhagwat was sacked, another petition has come up urging the judiciary to examine not only his dismissal but also circumstances leading to his appointment and promotion as the head of navy. The petition, filed on Monday by Dilip Karambelkar, editor of Marathi daily Tarun Bharat, said the public was interested to know the truth in its totality. (PTI)

    MLAs opposed to Pre-Primary Act

  • The decision on implementation of the Maharashtra Pre-School Centres (Regulation of Admission) Act, 1996 in its amended version received another jolt today, with a majority of MLAs expressing their opposition to it, Education Minister Sudhir Joshi said. Joshi met the MLAs today. He said he will seek advice of Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and decide on the issue in a couple of days.
