VADODARA, Jan 19: The Vadodara Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday night registered a case against District Civil Surgeon and Jamnabai Hospital superintendent Dr Bharat N Hathila for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 900 from a State Roadways driver to issue a fitness certificate. An ACB spokesman told Express Newsline that a case was registered with the Ahmedabad ACB when a relative of the driver -- a resident of Borsad -- told the ACB that Hathila, who had earlier accepted Rs 1100 from the driver to issue an ill-health certificate, was demanding Rs 900 to sign a fresh one.
After registering a complaint, two ACB inspectors, L Solanki and D K Vaishnav, came to Vadodara on Tuesday and laid a trap with the help of the driver's relative. However, Hathila did not accept the cash but asked the complainant to deposit it with one Chinubhai. Since there was no person by that name, ACB officials said it could be safely presumed that Hathila had sought the money for himself.
