Shah issues directive for flood-affected
District Collector R M Shah has asked flood victims to file their insurance claims by January 31 with respective insurance companies. He warned that claims filed after January 31 will not be considered. He said this while reviewing the progress of settlement of insurance claims, at a meeting attended by representatives of various insurance companies and banks. As many as 6873 claims worth Rs 17.75 crore were settled by December, 1998. The next meeting to review the progress of the remaining claims will be held on February 10.

Appointed
Former president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) Rupin Patchigar has been named Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee's programme co-ordinator economic policy. Patchigar, who met leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and proponent of liberalisation Dr Manmohan Singh to know the details of party's economic policy, said Dr Singh had accepted his invitation to visit Surat in March.

Meeting held
The All-India Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Railway Employees' Association met on Sunday at Railway Colony, Udhna. The meeting was presided over by Gujarat State Dalit Sena vice-president Bhaidasbhai M Sonwane. Representatives of the zonal committee Shamrao K Sonawane, Mahesh N Patel, Kishor Boricha, R D Saindane, Rajaram, Shashikant Sapkale and Ganpat Sonwane elected Kanchansingh J Vaghela as the Surat branch committee secretary and Chandrashekhar Bihari as committee secretary of Udhna branch.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress delegate and city secretary Bhupendra Solanki has greeted Muslims on Id-ur-Fitr on Wednesday.
