Davinder Singh, was the strength behind the Punjab Weightlifting Association (PWA), was its secretary since 1956.

He attended the international referee's clinic held at Teheran in 1976 and was also manager of the national team in 1989, which took part in the Commonwealth Games held at Malta.

The PWA held an emergent meeting under the chairmanship of its president SK Sinha, today at Patiala to mourn the sudden demise of the founder pillar of the PWA, who was instrumental in promoting the game in the region.

Weightlifting trials
Trials to select Punjab weightlifting team in men and women section for the forthcoming fifth National Games to be held at Manipur, will be held on January 25 at NIS Patiala.

According to a press release, weighing in would begin at 8 00 a.m, at the same venue.

The participants should bring three passport size photographs.
