Wipro board revamped

ENS ECONOMIC BUREAU  
BANGALORE, JAN 20: Wipro today effected changes at the top management, appointing P S Pai, Ashok Soota and Arun Thiagarajan as its vice-chairmen and executive officers.

Ashok Ganguly, chairman of ICI India and former Unilever director, and Dr Jagdish Sheth, professor of marketing at Emory University, USA, and an internationally reputed marketing authority, have also joined Wipro's board.

Announcing this, Wipro in a release, said that to take a leadership position in the global market, Wipro's top management would need to lead and grow the business, and hence the changes. Azim H Premji would continue to lead Wipro as its chairman.

Pai would lead Wipro consumer care and lighting group and Ashok Soota would be responsible for Wipro Infotech Software and services group, the release said. Arun Thiagarajan would be responsible for Wipro Infotech's products and services business--Wipro Infotech Systems and services group.

From being a Rs 38 crore organisation in 1979, Wipro has become over a Rs 2,000 croreglobal corporation in four businesses now.
