VADODARA, Jan 20: The blue-print pertaining to the modalities to make Vadodara the model district of Gujarat would be ready by April 2, according to District Collector Anil Mukim.Addressing reporters here on Monday, Mukim said in a series of meetings with different wings of administration it was decided to improve the functioning of the government department. It may be noted that Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, during his recent visit, had announced to make Vadodara a model district of the State.
He said the government wings had been divided into three groups -- infrastructure, public services and the regulatory agencies -- and their functioning would be zeroed in to improve them. He said the department of roads and buildings fall in the first group, health, education and supply office services in the second, and police and transport office services in the third set of agencies.
Admitting that government departments were disreputed for delays, inefficiency, and lack of transparency, he said the state government was determined to set an example of efficient administration.
He said that the departments falling under three groups had been asked to prepare their documents -- on the lines of the citizens' charter -- and plans to improve their functioning by April 2 after which it would be kept as a public document at the collectorate's information centre for the common man. ``Special communication gadgets and personnel would be spared for the centre to solve any querry'', he said.
According to Mukim, a cultural night would also be held in mid-February to generate funds for the plans in general and the centre in particular. He said that he would also form a group of observers from within the public to monitor and give feed back for better functioning of the departments. He added that the district would later chalk out its expenditure plan to work with financial backing.
