ChristianRuud awakening for Alex Corretja
Christian Ruud, who spent much of last season in tennis' minor leagues, knocked out second-seeded Alex Corretja on Wednesday, leaving the Australian Open with only one of its top four men's seeds. Ruud, a Norwegian ranked 86th in the world, belted back groundstrokes throughout giving Ruud a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

`Why tour'
Pakistani cricketers are preparing to embark on A high-profile tour of India despite security concerns triggered by threats and demonstrations by the Shiv Sena party. ``The common cause for us is to revive the India-Pakistan series and for that both the governments have mutually decided cricket should go on,'' Pakistan captain Wasim Akram told AFP.

Srinath wins
Prahlad Srinath needs to file his nails after his pre-quarterfinal match of the Gold Flake Aces ITF Futures Tennis Tournament today. First he dug a deep hole for himself with his own hands but then he awazingly clawed out of it. The effort buried Michel Kratochvil of Canada and the Indian bagged one of the last eight spots in the $10,000 event.

Secret return
The Indian cricket team's return from New Zealand has been kept a closely guarded secret in view of the attack on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarter here and threats held out to the cricketers. ``The place of arrival of the Indian team is not known and it has been kept a secret,'' informed Sharad Diwadkar, the BCCI executive secretary.
