NEW DELHI, JANUARY 20: The anti-extortion cell of the crime branch today arrested Riazuddin alias Raju, a resident of Ambedkar Basti, on the charge of extorting money from the owner of a silk saree printing factory in Ghonda, Ram Bhajan Kushwaha.Six months ago Bhajan allegedly started receiving calls that if does not pay up Rs 5 lakh, he and his school-going son would be killed. The caller warned Bhajan not to contact the police. Bhajan expressed his inability to pay such a large sum of money. He consulted Raju who used to visit the house casually as he used to teach Bhajan's daughters in the past.
Raju allegedly assured Bhajan that he will try to get in contact with the caller and get the matter solved. After a few days, Raju told Bhajan that he could pay the money in instalments of Rs 10,000 a month and that he would personally hand over the money. When Bhajan said that he wanted to meet the caller, but Raju told him that this could prove detrimental.
Meanwhile, Bhajan had reported the matter to the anti-extortion cell, which managed to nab Raju while he was taking Rs 10,000 from Ram Bhajan. He had already taken Rs 40,000 earlier.
On interrogation, Raju apparently told that the police that he wanted to live lavishly and needed the cash to meet the expenses of his girlfriends. Raju has a B.Sc degree from Jamia Milia University and a diploma in computers. He had also taken a loan of Rs 40,000 under Prime Minister Employment scheme which he had apparently frittered away.
