INS president condemns arrest of Sarita editor

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, JAN 22: Mammen Mathew, president, Indian Newspaper Society (INS), has condemned the arrest of the editor of Hindi fortnightly Sarita, Vishwa Nath, and his sons on January 12, by Punjab police from Delhi.

In a statement issued here by the INS, Mathew said he was shocked at the arbitrary and high-handed manner in which Vishwa Nath, an editor-publisher of repute, was arrested.

``The policemen went to the extent of forcibly entering and searching his residence and causing anguish to the women and children of the family. Such an act by any authority is unwarranted and amounts to blatant misuse of power. While the law must take its course, the act of the police officials needs immediate redressal. The INS condemns all such transgressions on the part of authorities against journalists, publishers and publications,'' Mathew said.
