Reddy, who had earlier presided over a meeting of APCC office bearers and DCC presidents said apart from discussing the current political situation in the state and the strategy for the Assembly election due later this year, the convention would also adopt resolutions condemning the ``alarming'' law and order situation, financial position and attacks on minorities.
The public meeting to be held at 1400 hours at the sprawling venue is expected to draw approximately four to five lakh people, he said adding that Sonia, whose visit is expected to enthusethe party cadres, would accord top priority in listening to the opinions and feelings articulated by the party workers at the grassroot level.
Meanwhile, a section of Congressmen hailing from backward Telangana region who have been demanding separate PCC have decided to boycott the convention and the public meeting in protest against reported remarks of AICC General Secretary R K Dhawan on the Telangana issue.
Taking serious objection to Dhawan's reported remarks that there was no need for separate PCC for Telangana, senior Congress leader, D K Samarasihma Reddy, told reporters here today that all the senior partymen from Telangana would stay away from the convention and public meeting.
They termed Dhawan's utterances as ``irresponsible and uncalled for'' and said these would be brought to the notice of Sonia Gandhi since it had deeply hurt the sentiments of the Telangana people.
Reddy and other party leaders fighting for separate PCC for Telangana also flayed the ``partisan'' attitude of the stateCongress leadership. However, the APCC chief refused to comment on the objections raised by Telangana leaders over Dhawan's remarks, saying that it was beyond his scope to comment on it.
