Shiv Sena's vandalism costs BCCI Rs 10 lakh
UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
MUMBAI, JAN 22: The total damage to the property of Board of Cricket Control in India office situated at the North Stand at Brabourne stadium has been estimated at Rs 10 lakh, according to senior manager, Oriental Insurance, Mumbai. Vandals had stormed the cricket board's office on Monday and destroyed office furniture, trophies besides roughing up the BCCI executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar. The vandals were protesting against the clearance given by the Central government to the Pakistan cricket team to tour India after a gap of 11 years. ``After preliminary assessment, we estimate the losses to be around Rs 10 lakh,'' said the manager. However, unofficial estimates have quoted the figure between Rs 14 to 15 lakh. ``The loss does not include restoration charges of the trophies since we are not aware at the moment how much would be the cost. The major loss is towards the office equipment like copiers, computers, furniture. The destruction of office seems futile from Shiv Sena's withdrawal of the agitationagainst the visting Pakistani team on Thursday,'' the manager further said.Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
