Schoolboy swims across 46-km stretch inside 8 hrs

Fourteen-year-old Vineet Ghule swam 46 kms between Dharamtar to Gateway of India in seven hours 46 minutes. Vineet is a student of Vidyaniketan School, Dombivli. He is among the fastest among the swimmers from Thane who have attempted the feat.

Manora badminton tournament

Manora Badminton Academy will be conducting a tournament for its members on January 30 and 31 at the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana. Entries can be registered with Manohar Godse or Ravi Sarmalkar at Matunga Gymkhana, MR Deokar or George John at Chembur Gymkhana and Vishwajeet Bhatnagar at Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana.

Grapplers gear up for championship

Shiv Sena and Mumbai Shahar Upnagar Taleem Mahasangh organised All-India Wrestling Championships will be held on January 26 at Andheri Sports Complex. More than 200 wrestlers from all over the country are expected tp participate in the championships which has been sponsored by Ispat, Sail and IDBI.

MCA probables forWZ u-14 event

Mumbai Cricket Association has announced a list of 30 probables who will be representing MCA in the West Zone under-14 tournament to be held at Rajkot in February. The players are expected to report to Pradeep Kasliwal at Wankhede Stadium on February 25 at 2.00 pm.

The probables: Karim Zindani, Hiken Shah, 3. Parag Madkaikar, Tanmay Joshi, Sunil Rane, Bhavish Shety, Swapnoj Thakur, Rohan Galdhana, Raunak Shah, Akshay Girap, Devendra Pawar, Siddharth Sharma, Shaunuk Gupte, Sanket Dhaye, Sahil Kukreja, Ameya Kanghe, Girish Vaswani, Dinar Gaokar, Varun Ponkshe, Kamlesh Asavale, Rohan Amladi, Markesh Bhatt, Agni Biswas, Varun Mundkar, Taha Khairullah, Sagar Dombre, Rohan Sadarjoshi, Sushant Marathe, Rohit Tayyade and Swapnil Patil.

Table tennis tournament for offices

The Mumbai Shahar Zilla Table Tennis Association will be conducting the inter-offices league for first division and women from February 22 and from second to fourth divisions from February 8. Entries will beaccepted from Jan 27-29 between 6.00 pm and 7.30 pm as the Association office at Brabourne Stadium.

Double-wicket tournament for blind

The National Sports Club of the Blind will be organising the sixth double wicket cricket tournament for the blind from January 24. The tournament is being sponsored by the Lions Club of Byculla.

Carrom umpires examination

The Maharashtra Carrom Association will be conducting State Carrom Panel Umpires examination during the Maharashtra State and Inter-District championshipa at Chiplun from Jan 27 to 31. The examinations will be held in English, Hindi and Marathi mediums. Application forms are available with Ashok Bhave, 1/6, Girgaon Adarsh Co-op HSG society, Goregaonkar Lane, Girgaon, Mumbai 4.

State veterans athletic meet at Thane

The Maharashtra State Veterans Athletic meet will be held at Dadoji Konddeo Stadium on February 9 and 10. Men above 35 and women over 30 years of age are eligible to participate. Entry forms are available with VijayShetty ad the venue between 5.00 pm and 7.00 pm.

Thane athletic meet on February 9

The Thane Metropolitan Gymkhana will be organising the Child Care Athletic Meet on February 9 and 10. The meet is for boys and girls between the ages of 6 to 12 and the schools affliated with TDCAAA, BCDAAA and BSDAAA will be allowed to participate. Entry forms can be collected from Vijay Shetty. Last date is Feb 4.

Road race for hostels on January 24

A Road race for inmates of various hostels of the city will be held on January 24 at 7.00 am. The event is being organised by St Andrew's House, one of the Wilson College Hostels and is being named `Sandathon 99'. For boys the distance is eight kms (Wilson college to NCPA and back) while the girls' distance is 6 kms (Wilson college to Talk of Town and back).

Big response for Vashi sports meet

A Sports meet with more than 1200 participants will be organised by Associated Arts at Navi Mumbai Sports Association ground, Vashi on January 24.
