Nehru stadium outfield not upto Kapil Dev's mark

PUNE, Jan 22: Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev and current president of the Inspection Committee of the BCCI made a surprise visit to the city today morning to inspect the Nehru stadium, venue for the one day match between India and Sri Lanka, part of the triangular series to be played on March 30. Pakistan is the third team in the fray.

He was accompanied by Jaywant Lele, chairman of the selection committee, Dyaneshwar Agashe -- chairman of the Maharashtra Cricket Association and Hemant Kanitkar -- jt secretary of MCA.Kapil dev expressed dissatisfaction on the condition of the outfield. The presence of a yellow patch of grass on the ground also needed to be seen to. He also expressed the need to have a separate room for the umpires, match referee and the observer.

The former Indian cricketer left immediately, this just being a preliminary visit. There will be a second visit next month.
