Seeds blown asunder Down Under
Third seed and crowd favourite Pat Rafter was knocked out of the Australian Open by Sweden's Thomas Enqvist yesterday. Britain's Tim Henman too crashed out of the Open, losing to Swiss Marc Rosset 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 7-5.

Paes-Bhupathi live dangerously
Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi kept their Grand Slam doubles title hope alive yesterday by defeating Doug Flack and Mark Merklein 4-6 6-4 8-6 in the second round of the Australian Open.

Anand held, Kasparov leads
India's Viswanathan Anand was held to a quick draw by Ivan Sokolov in the fifth round of the Hoogovens International Chess Grandmasters tournament, losing the lead to Russian world number one Gary Kasparov, who beat Dmitri Reinderman of Netherlands.
