NEW DELHI, JAN 23: Geet Sethi was not exactly in his best form, but he is certainly approaching it as the National billiards competition neared the knock-out stages. The Asiian Games silver medallist in the individual billiards competition demolished Sunil Sharda 1287-170 in a hopelessly one-sided match.Sethi was clearly making ample use of the time he got the table and piled up four three-figure breaks, with 278 on the 13th visit as his best for the day. He also had 144 on the 23rd, 165 on the 32nd and 154 on the 36th. He has now won three matches in his Group A. Ashok Shandilya the man who stunned Sethi in the Bangkok final also won his second group match and with one walkover ahead of him, he is also sure of the knock out berth.
Shandilya, who had to come through the qualifiers, defeated Ashok Kumar 774-363 in Group H. Shandilya seemed to be affected by the table, which seemed somewhat faulty to him.
His best break was 94 and he had one of 85 besides that. If things go by the draw Shandilya couldwell run into Sethi in the quarter-finals itself. Among other notable winners was Rupesh Shah who won two matches in Group B. He beat Subhash Sood of Delhi 687-277 and then beat Rajan Gupta 662-170 in the evening. Rupesh had a good unfinished break of 154 against Rajan Gupta.
In Group D 13-year-old Pankaj Advani of Karnataka beat MA Muneem 540-466, while in Group C Shyam Jagtiani defeated B Chowdhary 642-202.
