Tollygunge hold Bagan
Saibal Bose
CALCUTTA, JAN 23: Tollygunge Agragami continued their unbeaten run in their first National Football League, holding reigning champions Mohun Bagan to a goalless draw at the Salt Lake Stadium here today. The Tollygunge bench was a scene of jubilation after the match with coach Amal Dutta at the centre of it. In contrast, the Bagan players trooped back to their dressing room behind PK Banerjee, quite dejected at the result.Tollygunge head Group A at the half-way stage. They have nine points from five matches while Bagan, also unbeaten so far, have seven from as many. Bagan's lacklustre show continued even though they did have a few good shots at the Tollygunge goal today. Two brilliant saves by Tollygunge goalkeeper Sumit Mukherjee helped keep their half of the scoresheet clean. The match which turned ugly, saw a strict supervision by referee Inaytullah Khan. He flashed the yellow card six times with Bagan veteran Satyajit Chatterjee receiving the marching order with his second booking of the match in the65th minute. Chatterjee committed a foul in the 17th minute and then deliberately handled the ball. Chatterjee had to walk out of the ground a minute after his brilliant 20-yarder was punched away.
