Cop kills himself

A police constable commited suicide by shooting himself in the head while on duty at Vidhan Bhavan last night.

According to police, the incident took place at around 9 pm when Pran Lahu Walvi fired a round from his service carbine. The bullet pierced his skull injuring him seriously, added police.

Walvi was rushed to St George Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. He was attached to LA-2 of the Mumbai police.

Investigations have revealed the suicide is a fallout of family dispute. He was mentally disturbed after his wife had sought seperation from him two months ago.

Yesudas in concert

Noted playback singer Yesudas will perform for the first time after 10 years at Shanmughanand Hall on Tuesday January 26 at 7 pm. Tickets will be available at the premises.

IIT TECHFEST

How does the average college student make the transition from the classroom to the world of boardrooms and big bucks? A team of more than 100 students of the IndianInstitute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, have attempted to answer this question by organising a three-day `Techfest' - aiming to bring together the technology industry and the student body ``in a dynamic confluence of ideas and plain old-fashioned fun.'' The fest is scheduled from January 29 to 31.

US study seminar

Students interested in joining American colleges can participate in `Student Seminar & Interview' organised by Compliments India on February 5. The seminar, for admissions to US colleges for Fall 1999 will be held at Dahnukar Sabhagriha, Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Oricon House, Fort, 9 am onwards.
