Panel for ending DoT monoply
No more monopoly of government-run organisations such as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on STD calls, ending VSNL's hegemony over international calls (ISD) by 2002, and allowing even local cable operators to instal phones at subscriber's homes.

VSNL GDR gets FIPB nod
The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) on Saturday cleared 43 proposals totalling Rs 2,525 crore including Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd's (VSNL) $400 million global depository receipt issue.

Greaves, Leyland bag Impresa award
Greaves, Spaco and Ashok Leyland have bagged the `Impresa 98' awards for their contribution to promote Indo-Italian business relations. Impresa 98 awards, which will now be an annual feature, was jointly instituted by the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Indian Express Group.
