Security beefed up on Rupublic Day eve

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Jan 25: Adequate security measures have been taken to ensure peaceful passage of Republic Day celebration in the city on Tuesday.

Polo Ground, the venue for official function this year, was checked for anti-sabotage operations on Monday afternoon just before the rehearsal programme of sky-divers of the Indian Air Force.

Assistant Commissioner of Police H R Malik said the entire ground was checked for presence of explosives by bomb disposal squad. ``We have taken full security precautions in view of the sensitive nature of the city which is sitting on piles of explosives. We can't leave anything to chances,'' he stated.

He said security arrangements had also been made for a rally to be taken out by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). Police pickets have also been deployed at sensitive points in the city to prevent any untoward incident, he stated.
