UGC recognition for CCS

VADODARA, Jan 25: The Centre for Canadian Studies of the M S University will be the first of its kind in the country which has been recognised as an independent centre under the Ninth plan of the University Grants Commission to offer Canadian courses.

It has been functioning since 1991 and has been functioning under the department of English since 1984. It offers three PhDs, 8 M.Phil. and more than 100 MA degrees in the English department.

WIth the new sanction the centre will function on a multidisciplinary basis and will operate as an independent administrative and academic unit and have the status of a department in the university.

Director of the centre O P Juneja said the four faculty positions of a professor, a reader and two lectures from different disciplines of Canadian studies will be sanctioned for the centre.

He added that expenditure for building, including a seminar room, office equipment, books and journals, field work and operational cost will also be provided to the centre.

The centre will also be sanctioned a documental officer for the sectional library. The UGC team for this upgradation is likely to visit the centre next month.
