However, Smit and Mayur lost in the quarter-finals to the round robin top seeds Abhay Jamenis and Rajesh Kasat by 7-2. In the other quarter-finals, Shashi Vaidya and Parandekar, who have had a relatively smooth run till now, went down to Nitin Bhave and SS Joshi.

It was an easy run for the winners in the other two quarterfinals as Makarand Ranade and Raju Sathe defeated RG Bapat and Halbe 7-4, 7-0 while N Venkatesh and Bharat Sasane beat Newalia and Anand Kishore 7-0.
