Ivory Coast envoy meets Governor
The ambassador of Ivory Coast, Dieudonne Essiene, called on UT Administrator and Punjab Governor Lt Gen (retd) B.K.N. Chhibber here today. The Ambassador expressed his appreciation for Chandigarh's architecture and Punjab's rapid economic progress.

Senior citizens' meet
The Senior Citizens Federation, North Zone today held a meeting under the chairmanship of H.L.Dhammi in Panchkula. Dhammi called upon volunteers to get together and work towards the common goal of putting up Day Care Centre for the senior citizens. "We are trying our best to get land allotted on concessional basis for putting up these buildings in each district headquarter of Punjab, Haryana, HP and UT," said Dhammi.

Principals to confer
The Federation of the Associations of Principals will hold a meeting on January 29 at the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, here, to take stock of the situation arising out of the Punjab Government's failure to release the grant to colleges affiliated to the Punjab University. Later, a delegation of the principals will call on the Punjab Chief Minister and officers of the UT Administration to plead for immediate implementation of revised UGC pay-scales, and gazette notification for implementation of pension, gratuity and other retirement benefits to the college staff of the non-government colleges.

Chetna Manch plea
Members of Chetna Manch, Chandigarh, assembled at the Sector 17 Piazza here today and formed a human chain to express solidarity with sportsmen, artists and minority communities who have been "targetted by fascist groups". The Manch called on "every conscientious citizen to raise his voice against nefarious fascist designs and strengthen the secular and democratic fabric of our society".

Dance competition
A dance competition conducted by Payal Musical Club will be broadcast on Siti Channel in the last week of February. Dancers, aged 6 to 20, are eligible to compete in four categories: classical, folk, film and western. The aspirants should contact the club at Tagore Theatre before January 31.

SE to hold meet
The superintending engineer (op) HVPNL-Ambala will meet the public and redress greivances on the spot on January 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 49-50-51-52 Power Colony, Industrial Area Phase II, Panchkula.
