Pak cultural delegation fails to turn up

MOGA, Jan 27: A 25-member cultural delegation from Pakistan, scheduled to visit Dhudike - the birthplace of Lala Lajpat Rai, to participate in the birth centenary celebrations of the freedom fighter on January 26, has failed to turn-up in view of the non-clearance of visas by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

Servants of People Society of India Society Satyapaul Grover said here today. Grover, who is also the secretary of South Asia Fraternity Association, sponsoring the goodwill visit of Pakistan delegation said the visas for the delegation were not cleared as police chiefs of Moga, Faridkot and Ferozepur districts had not sent their ``no-objection'' certificates.

However, the police chiefs of the concerned districts when contacted by ENS today morning said the that so far the Government of India had not sought any no-objection certificates required for the proposed visit from them.

According to the schedule, the delegation, led by renowned revolutionary Urdu poet Dr. Khalid Javed ``Jaan'', was to arrive at Dhudike on January 26 to participate in three-day sports mela on the eve of birthday celebrations of Lala Lajpat Rai on January 28. The delegation was then to visit Kotkapura to participate in Indo-Pakistan Mushaira to be organised on January 28. The delegation was to visit New Delhi on January 31 after visiting Faridkot, Ferozepur and Abohar. The delegation was to stay in the capital for a week.

Abohar: For the first time in the area an Indo-Pak Mushaira is being organised on January 31 by local social welfare society. Society president Prof. B.S. Chaudhary said the mushaira is being held at the cultural centre-cum-auditorium of local D.A.V. College. Eminent Urdu poets from Pakistan Dr. Khalid Javed ``Jaan'', Aizaz Ulla ``Naaz'', Mohd. Afzal ``Shahir'', Shahid Nadeem, Javed Aftab Shall will recite their poems. Eminent Indian Urdu poets including Bashir Badr, recently awarded Padam Shree award, are Dr. Azad Gulati, R. Sharma ``Taseer'', Aziz Parihar, Raminder Jakhu (IAS), H.K. Lall, Dr. Chander Trikha, A.K.S. Ferozpuri and Ram Singh Chahal among others.
