Major held for cheating investors Vice-President of SPG Green Gold Plantations Pvt Ltd has been arrested for allegedly cheating investors of Rs 23 lakh. Major Manjeet Singh (retd) (62) is a resident of flat no. 8108, sector 8, Vasant Kunj. The company -- promoted by one Satya Dev Sharma -- had advertised in December 1995 inviting deposits from investors and offering attractive interest rates of 24-30 per cent. According to the Crime Branch, the company managed to collect over Rs 5 crore. The Crime Branch started investigating after receiving complaints from 13 investors. Along with Singh, general manager K.K. Chauhan has also been arrested. DCP (Crime) Karnal Singh said that while Dev and his wife are absconding, more arrests were likely.Man arrested With the arrest of Afan alias Mohd Salim, 23, the police claim to have averted a robbery in the Jagatpuri. Constable Jai Kumar and home guard Shambir were on patrol around 4 pm when they stopped three persons roaming under suspicious circumstances. On being stopped, one of them, later identified as Afan, reportedly fired at them with a country-made pistol which misfired. Jai Kumar fired a shot in the air with the service revolver and managed to overpower Afan. His associates managed to escape. Afan reportedly disclosed that they were planning to commit a robbery in Jagatpuri. Bomb hoax There was a bomb scare at Krishna Nagar in East Delhi on Thursday afternoon.
