Senior Police Inspector of the Goregaon police station, M N Sanap said, ``Singh was arrested today and had to be immediately released as per court orders till February 5. We will move the courts after that for cancellation of his bail.'' Singh, who had already obtained anticipatory bail, was released on furnishing a bond of Rs 5,000 to the sessions court.

On Tuesday, Singh and another officer, whose name is not known, visited Shri Krishna bar at M G Road, Goregaon (W) at night and demanded food and drinks. Rajitesh Shetty and Ramesh Kotian, proprietor and manager of the restaurant respectively, said the plainclothed cops were inebriated. They were served one round of drinks but were denied another as it was well past 11.30 pm.

The cops allegedly startedbashing up Shetty and Kotian. Then, Singh went to a nearby police chowkie, brought along two constables and beat up Shetty and Kotian again.

The complainants also claimed they were bundled into an rickshaw, taken to Goregaon police station and released after two hours at around 2.15 am.

However, Singh reportedly forced them back into the station and locked them up. Shetty and Kotian were later released by duty officer sub-inspector Vasant Patil at 3.30 am and taken to Siddhartha Nursing Home. They were later admitted to Nanavati hospital. The hotel owners now plan to lodge a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission not just against Singh's behaviour, but also against police officers who gobble down food and drinks and don't to pay up, disclosed a hotelier.
