Delhi BJP disowns `martyr' Khurana

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, JAN 31: Upset about Union Parliamentary and Tourism Minister Madan Lal Khurana's post-resignation outbursts, the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has completely dissociated itself from him today. Not quite knowing how to tackle the new martyr, a rather nervous state party chief, Mange Ram Garg, said: ``We have nothing to do with him. His resignation is a matter of the Central Government. He is their and the central leadership's problem.''

Although the Delhi unit has been vertically split over the support to Khurana from the time his name came up for chief ministership before the Assembly elections, the former Delhi chief minister seems to have lost ground in the party.

``Even his die-hard followers are embarrassed with his frequent outbursts. Both the party leadership and the RSS bosses have been very upset from the time of Delhi elections. He has aired his personal opinion in the press too many times and always at the cost of the party's image,'' a senior BJP functionary said.

Infact, the BJP central party leadership is said to have taken exception to the way he has accused party president Kushabhau Thakre today. ``They are giving him another day. If he carries on with his statements tomorrow, a show-cause notice is likely to be served on him,'' a senior party leader said.

Earlier, it was decided that given Khurana's seniority in the party, no disciplinary action would be taken against him. Though the entire Sangh Parivar is said to be up in arms against him for first volunteering to ``atone the sins'' committed against the Christian missionaries and then by going public about it.
