Vaidya takes over as SBI chief

ENS ECONOMIC BUREAU  
MUMBAI, Jan 31: G G VAIDYA, managing director & group executive (national banking) of State Bank of India, will assume charge as chairman of the bank from Monday. He takes over from M P Radhakrishnan who retired on January 30, 1999. Radhakrishnan had a brief stint at the helm of SBI after the superannuation of M S Verma, who is now advisor to RBIVaidya joined the bank as a probationary assistant in January 1962 and has held a number of critical assignments, including MD of State Bank of Travancore, MD of Discount & Finance House of India, general manager, corporate treasury and the chief manager (credit) in the international division of the bank. His tenure as SBI chairman will be upto October 31, 2000.
