Vaidya takes over as SBI chief

MUMBAI, Jan 31: G G VAIDYA, managing director & group executive (national banking) of State Bank of India, will assume charge as chairman of the bank from Monday. He takes over from M P Radhakrishnan who retired on January 30, 1999. Radhakrishnan had a brief stint at the helm of SBI after the superannuation of M S Verma, who is now advisor to RBIVaidya joined the bank as a probationary assistant in January 1962 and has held a number of critical assignments, including MD of State Bank of Travancore, MD of Discount & Finance House of India, general manager, corporate treasury and the chief manager (credit) in the international division of the bank.
