Colleges to remain closed today

Express News Service
MUMBAI, January 31: All colleges in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra will be closed tomorrow due to the bandh called by various principals' organisations and educational institutions to protest the government's failure to solve problems facing colleges.

The Mumbai-based Association of Non-Government Colleges, an organisation of principals, has extended its support to the bandh.

The college authorities complained that the state government has taken no steps to fulfil urgent demands of educational institutions. According to them, both the Ministers and department secretaries agreed that the demands of the educational institutions were genuine, but took no action to meet them.

Among the various demands listed by the educational institutions across the state were: the scrapping of the pro-rata system in institutions which have both junior and senior colleges, and an adequate amount under the EBC facility to both junior and senior colleges.
