Singh gets Railway Staff College award

VADODARA, Jan 31: Praveen Singh, ex-Divisional Railway Manager and Director General (Shipping) was awarded the distinguished alumnus award for his achievements at the 48th Foundation Day of the Railway Staff College here on Sunday.

Besides Singh, 52 other railway officers of various disciplines were also honoured for their achievements. Speaking on the occasion, K Balakesari, member staff of railway board, said the college provided education in various disciplines pertaining to the railways.''

Speaking on the occasion, college principal C Bijlani said, ``The college's objective was to produce world class executives, and become an institute of excellence in the field of executive education.'' Bijlani added that the college also intended to promote and conduct research in the field of transportation.

On the courses conducted at the college he said the foundation and induction courses were very useful for civil servants recruited through UPSC. ``These courses can also act as refresher courses for railway executives at regular intervals,'' said Bijlani, adding the college also offered strategic management courses for top layer of managers, which include principals and Divisional Railway managers.

The training methods include classroom lectures, case studies, group discussions.``The faculty uses multimedia equipment such as video cameras and microcomputers for training,'' he said, adding said two years ago the college was on the World Wide Web, thus enabling even probationers to exchange information through the Internet.

The college comprised 30 faculty members, including the principal. He said the faculty members were drawn from among eminent academicians and people who specialised in various fields. Stating that the college boasts of more than 50,000 books, several journals and reports, he said, as many as 53,924 officers had already graduated from the college.
