Three kids die of measles

MANDI, Jan 31: Three children have reportedly died and over a 100 are down with measles in Khalwahan panchayat of remote backward Janjehli block of this district.Stating this to mediapersons, District Congress Committee president Vir Singh Chauhan and Zila Parishad member Guman Singh Thakur said the disease had hit a number of villages, including Diddar, Baghi, Rujhag, Jhamach, Dhalaut and Jachh. They said the only health sub-centre at Diddar village was without any staff for the last one month, and same was the case at Bali Chowki primary health sub-centre.Expressing concern over the death of the children, Chauhan and Thakur have urged Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Health Minister J.P. Nadda to send a special medical team to the affected villages, which are now under three feet of snow. According to information available here, a medical team along with vaccines and medicines has been rushed to Khalwahan today. Deputy Commissioner Prabodh Saxena, along with a team of doctors, has also left for Khalwahan.Meanwhile, in the absence of the Chief Medical Officer, who is away on tour, the department spokesman refused to comment on the non-availability of staff in health centres and hospitals in Chachiot sub-division of this district.
