Gas pipeline catches fire in Vadodara

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, JAN 31: Fuel gas from an underground gas pipeline running along the University Road outside the main gate of Sayajibaug caught fire on Sunday morning, sending 20-foot flames leaping into the sky. No loss of life or property was reported and the cause of leakage or fire is yet to be ascertained.

Fire brigade sources said eight fire tenders were pressed into service to extinguish the fire and fought valiantly to bring the blaze under control.. The fire, which began at 9.50 a.m., was completely extinguished by 12.45 p.m.The leakage was subsequently plugged by personnel of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, fire brigade sources said.

This is the second leakage in a gas pipeline during the last one month. An explosion had taken place in the pipeline passing below the footpaths opposite Jubileebaug Garden recently.

However, no one was injured in that accident.
