The police commissionerate has received more than two dozen applications from people willing to become volunteers to assist and looking after old and disabled individuals or couples living alone.

The commissionerate has also received phone calls and letters from about 20 senior citizens living on their own in Alkapuri, requesting help. The scheme, aimed at making it difficult for criminals to strike at senior citizens, was conceived by the force after an elderly lady living in the J P Road PS area was robbed and murdered at home.
