In the first raid conducted at Hafiz Petroleum in Sagrampura area of the city, 4400 litres of kerosene worth Rs 38,000 was seized and depot proprietor Mohammed Hanif Ghulam booked under the Essential Commodities Act.

Officials also raided the Meghjani kerosene depot at Gopipura area of the city and seized 400 litres of engine oil and 1300 litres of kerosene valued at Rs 26,000. They also raided Dhruv Kerosene depot at Begumpura area of the city and seized 2500 litres of kerosene worth Rs 20,750. A department release said no records had been maintained for the stock.

In another major seizure of white-coloured free sale kerosene from the Vhorwad area of the city, 2500 litres of kerosene, stocked illegally by S K Oil Traders was seized by the department. The seizure was worth Rs 21,000. Also 1500 litres of kerosene worth Rs 13,500 was seized from one Rajnikant Gandabhai operating in the Varachha area of the city.

Among other seizures, the police confiscated 500 litres of unaccounted kerosene from a depot in Sahara Darwaja area, illegally stocked oil and kerosene worth Rs 1,100 from Shivam Freesale Kerosene Depot in Falsawadi and 600 litres from one M M Marfatia's depot at Sayyedpura. The raids were carried out on orders of District Magistrate R M Shah, the release said.
