VHP meet to discuss conversions

AHMEDABAD, Feb 2: The Crucial meeting of the Kendriya Margdarshak Mandal (central advisory board) of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, to be held here prior to the eighth `Dharma Sansad' (religious parliament) from February five to eight, may consider to include on its agenda issues like religious conversion and the Ramjanmabhoomi temple construction at Ayodhya.

Addressing a press conference here today, VHP's secretary and Kendriya Dharmacharya Pramukh Jiveshwar Mishra and state unit general secretary Dilip Trivedi said said the venue of the Sansad was being christened after Sant Ravidas and the main gate will be known after Guru Gobind Singh to mark the 300th anniversary of Khalsa sect. The roads in the premises will be named after Lords Buddha and Mahavir, besides others, he said.

Mishra pointed out that about six thousand saints from across the country, will participate in the crucial meeting. Participants included many Shankaracharyas, Ramanujacharyas and veteran saints from all the Shaivite and Viaishnaviteakharas. About fifty Sadhvis from the different sects and orders will also participate.

He said the last census had put the population of sadhus and sants in India at 17 lakh. The VHP aimed at roping in ten lakh from them as part of its drive to revive Hindutva in six lakh villages of India.

Replying to persistent questioning about the agenda of the Dharma Sansad and the Kendriya Margadarshak Mandal, Mishra said it was up to the mandal to decide in its meeting on Feburary five here.

VHP working president Ashok Singhal will also be present in the February five meeting mandal.

During the meet, cultural programmes will also be organised in which music maestros like Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and danseuses like Hema Malini, Pandit Birju Maharaj among others, will present their programmes.
