MUMBAI, Feb 2: The new Chief Minister, sworn-in on Sunday, took the Cabinet by storm today. For the first time since the alliance government came to power on March 14, 1995, a final decision on all the 17 items on the agenda was taken by the Cabinet.Immediately after the Cabinet began at 10 am, the CM announced to all the ministers that there will be no break either for lunch or tea and all the items on the agenda will be taken up for discussion and decisions on all of them will be arrived at today.
During former CM Manohar Joshi's tenure, out of 15-20 items on the agenda, less than three could be finished. Said a senior minister, "Joshi was so much time conscious that he would even call off the meeting without taking a decision. On occasions, of the 35 to 40 items on the agenda, decision would be taken on less five items."
Definitely, there is a major difference in Joshi and Rane's style of functioning. While Joshi was more time conscious, Rane lays emphasis on completing the items on theagenda.
But, at Rane's first media briefing, seasoned Munde did come to the Chief Minister's rescue more than one time on issues like hiking cotton prices under the monopoly cotton procurement scheme, freezing prices of five essential commodities or restoring the retirement age of government employees.
