Return to grass gives a high

Leander Paes
It was great to get back on grass after a long while. Playing singles had its own charm and I got the right kind of match to start off the tournament with a win.

I'm happy that I didn't lose serve in the entire match and a break each in the two sets was enough to make the next grade.

I wouldn't say I am absolutely impressed by the first round match, but the match has given me enough reasons to feel good about, considering that I am playing singles after a pretty long time. Moreover, I was surprised to see a good crowd for my match.

I think I did a better job of my serve and volley and I didn't take much time to get into rhythm. I had no pressure on my heel while playing on grass but my shoulder is a bit sore. My next opponent Frederiksen is a typical Swede. He doesn't have much of an experience on grass and is not much of a serve and volleyer. So I know what to do and try and be as solid as possible. He has a huge forehand which I have to take care of.

`Hesh' (Bhupathi) had a rather tough matchagainst the former junior Wimbledon champion South African Wesley Whitehouse. He lost the second set due to some sloppy volleying but I thought he was bothered a bit by his shoulder. It was good to see him come out of that bad patch in the decider. The serve, his biggest weapon, helped him get out of the crisis.

He next meets Australian Peter Tramacchi who is another tough customer. I'm sure `Hesh' will rise to the occasion.
