High Court seeks probe record in Anjana's case

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CUTTACK, Feb 3: The Orissa High Court today sought to know the State Government's view if the court handed over the investigation of the Anjana Mishra gang-rape case to CBI.

While posting the matter to February 9, a division Bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice P C Nayak asked the State Government to file an affidavit in this regard.

It also asked the State Government to make its opinion clear if the court ordered a joint probe by State Crime Branch of Police and CBI. The division Bench further sought to know the Government's stand in the event of contradictory findings by the judicial inquiry ordered by it into Anjana's gang-rape and the on-going investigation by the Crime Branch.

On Anjana's security concern, the division Bench directed the Central government counsel to inform the court whether the Central Reserve Police Force or Rapid Action Force had any women wing having at least two constables and two inspectors who could be deployed for her security.

Anjana, who is involved in alegal battle with the former Advocate General, Indrajeet Ray, for allegedly trying to rape her over one and half years back, was gang-raped near Barang on January 9 last. She had moved the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the incident.
