EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATHANAMTHITTA, FEB 3: The reported attempts to thwart the century-old Maramon convention has aroused concern among the people of the district. The convention, noted for its well-disciplined and secular nature, is scheduled to open on the vast sandbed of Pampa on February 14.

District Congress Committee president Peelipose Thomas said here today that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's charges against speakers at the convention was aimed at destabilising communal harmony in the area.

In a statement, the DCC chief pointed out that the convention had no history of permitting foreign speakers from reaching Maramon on tourist visas to address the convention, adding both the government and the VHP were aware of this.
