Panel to discuss creation of DyMC posts

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Feb 3: The Standing Committee of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation on Thursday will take up for discussion the proposal by Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria for creation of posts of Deputy Municipal Commissioners to manage the four civic zones.

The proposal was put forth with an aim to decentralise the functioning of the VMC by entrusting the responsibility of zonal affairs into the hands of the respective DyMCs of the zones. While DyMCs H S Patel and I B Peerzada have already been named for the posts, VMC sources inform that the technical staff of the civic body have expressed displeasure over the selection of administrative officers stating that they (technical personnel) should have been considered for the posts instead.

Another item on the agenda would be Aloria's proposal to double the fine levied from cattle-owners for releasing impounded stray cattle. Aloria has suggested that the fine be raised from Rs 25 to Rs 50.

Sub-standard Materials: Opposition leader Kanchanbhai Parmar on Wednesday charged the VMC for persisting in its purchase of sub-quality materials for paving the roads.

In a release, Parmar stated that the Chief Auditor of the civic body had passed a Rs 1 crore cheque for purchase of hand-cut materials despite constant representations from the Opposition about its poor quality. He reiterated that failure on the part of VMC officials to use specified materials in the execution of road development works, the roads ended up being damaged within short periods, adding that the recent approval for the purchase of the material proved that the VMC heads were not interested in checking the quality of the materials.
