MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 3: A brilliant unbeaten century by Shounak Gupte (103: 104b, 120m, 7x4) and his 175 run association with his captain Rohan Amladi (66: 115b, 134m, 6x4) powered IES VN Sule Guruji closer to the Giles Shield title as they took a 95-run lead over Shardashram Marathi on the second day at the Elf Vengsarkar Academy ground here today. At close, Shardashram were 51 for three, recovering from 19-3. Their unbeaten batsmen Atish Golatkar and left-hander Dinar Gaokar did not look in too much of a bother. IES's overnight pair of Kinjal Patel and Bravish Shetty raised exactly 100 for the opening wicket. Kinjal fell ten runs later making 42 (101b, 125m, 5x4).
Amladi and Gupte came together at the fall of Rohan Sadarjoshi at 117for three and knocked 175 runs off just 35.2 overs. They had just 13 hits to the fence between them and ran most of their runs.
Shardashram in the second innings lost three early wickets. But Golatkar has looked solid and keeping him company is Gaokar who has batted stylishly so far for his 16 runs.
