Stolen silver: one more arrested
The Delhi Police have arrested one more youth who was allegedly involved in the theft of 400 kg of silver from outside New Delhi Railway Station in December. Soon after the theft, the police had arrested an employee of a private courier service, Vikat.According to DCP (east) Balaji Srivastava, Vikat had confessed to his involvement in the theft along with five associates. He had reportedly named Salim, 22, among the five.
The police arrested Salim yesterday following a tip-off that he and some of his associates involved in the theft would assemble at a bus stand in Mayur Vihar. When the police reached the spot, they found only Salim there.
Salim has told the police that theft was planned in connivance with Vikat and Deepak, also an employee of Andhra Agrasia Service the private courier agency in Chandni Chowk.
On December 7, Deepak reportedly claimed that some youths had stolen 10 bags of silver when he was taking the consignment on a hand-cart to the railway station. And the thieves fled the spot with the silver in a tempo.
The silver had been sent by a Rajasthan based-jeweller, who had engaged the courier service to deliver it to clients in Mumbai. When Deepak went missing suddenly, the police suspected inside involvement. They arrested Vikat, but have failed to trace Deepak so far. The police are now looking for three more youths -- Ram Kirpal, Rajender and Ramesh. They have also failed to recover the stolen silver so far.
