Police suspect triple murder

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Feb 7: A day after the body of 27-year-old Indira Parmar was found in a canal two km away from Rander, the city police recovered the body of her alleged lover, one Sajid, from another canal between Kim and Kamrej in the district. The police suspect a third person, a woman, might have been killed along with Indira and Sajid.

Interrogations of key persons, including family members of the deceased, indicated the involvement of four people in the crime, police sources said. ``This appears to be a double murder by someone who did not approve of their relationship but was very much party to it'', Assistant Commissioner of Police (special branch) M B Pethani said, adding, however, that no arrests had been made till Sunday evening.

Sources, however, told Express Newsline that all four accused -- the main suspect Mahesh Desai, sarpanch of the Mota Varachha village in the outskirts of the city, Umesh Desai, Mehmood and Kantu Rikshawala -- had been picked up by the Detection of Crime Branch early on Sunday.

According to sources, Sajid, who ran a truck transport business at Una Paani Road and lived in Salabatpura, divorced his wife after getting involved with Indira. Indira, too, refused to get married to someone of her father's choice on the plea that she was involved with Sajid.

Later, however, Sajid apparently developed some affection for an Amroli-based woman familiar to Mahesh Desai. On coming to know about this, Desai apparently decided to kill Sajid and Indira. The police suspect the Amroli-based woman, whose name still has not been ascertained, may have been murdered.

Sources said it was the chief accused who told police officials that Sajid's body was to be found in a canal between Kamrej and Kim. The police apparently think both Sajid and Indira were murdered between Kamrej and Kim and their bodies deliberately disposed of in different places.
