Kedar Tembe top seed

CHANDIGARH, Feb 7: Kedar Tembe and Akshay Vishal Rao, both of India, have been seeded first and second respectively in the boys singles of the ITF Junior Circuit Tennis Championship which begins tomorrow at the CLTA Complex in Sector 10 here. Both have 105 ITF points each. Karan Doctor, also of India, has been seeded third with 75 ITF points. Great Britain's Mark Weaver and Pakistan's Walha Ahmed are the fourth and fifth seeds. Just six foreigners figure in the main draw of 32. The qualifying draw was an all-India affair.

Announcing the draw, Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association chairman Rajan Kashyap said four wild cards had been given to Nipun Gupta, Anoop Anand, Akash Sharma and Rajul Rajkhewa while four players had qualified for the main draw this morning. Those who made it to the main draw were Ritesh Chetlangia, Sudhakar Sidharath, Jay Arora and Arpan Lakhani. Twenty four players got into the main draw on the basis of their ITF/AITA points.

Top seed Kedar Tembe will meet Nishank Mishra in the first round in the upper half of the draw. In the lower half second seed Akshay, a Punwire trainee, is pitted against Parantap Chaturvedi. Another Punwire trainee and seeded eighth Sunil Kumar will face Pakistan's Qamar Nomi.

In the girls section, top seed Sheetal Gautam (130 ITF points) and second seed Shruti Dhawan (85 ITF points) are likely to meet in the final. Both have been given first round bye. Radhika Tulpule (75 ITF points) and Radhika Mandke (35) have been seeded third and fourth respectively. Tulpule meets Simmi Rani while Mandke crosses swords with Raje Kalpita. Poland's Malinoswska Marta (5th) and Wasim Nida (7th) of Pakistan are the only foreign entries who have been seeded.

All India Tennis Association referee Dushan Deo said that matches would begin tomorrow at 8 a.m., weather premitting. The weather has dramatically changed with a possible rain tonight or tomorrow.

Girls: 1 Sheetal Gautam, 2 Shruti Dhawan, 3 Radhika Tulpule, 4 Radhika Mandke, 5 Marta Malinowska (Pol), 6 Sonal Phadke, 7 Wasim Nida (Pakistan) and 8 Nona Wagh.

Boys: Ritesh Chetlangia bt Abhishek Tamane 7-7 (4), 6-0; Sudakar Sidarath bt Jaidev Panjabi 6-3, 6-3, Jay Arora bt Rohan Dhalvi 6-3, 6-3, Arpan Lakhani bt Vivian Chetri 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
