MUMBAI, FEB 9: Chairman of the selection committee for the Indian cricket team Ajit Wadekar has been billed by a bank for over Rs. 20,000 for purchases made in Chennai by an impostor using his stolen credit card.In a complaint to the Commissioner of Police at Egmore in Chennai recently, Wadekar has stated that his office briefcase containing Bank of Baroda credit card was stolen on December 9 last year at Matunga in Central Mumbai.
The former India cricket captain has stated that though he lodged a first information report (FIR) with the Matunga police station and informed Bobcards Ltd, the issuing authority of his credit card, immediately no action was taken and instead he had received a bill for purchases made in Chennai on three different dates last month when he was never there.
Bob Cards' spokesperson was immediately not available for comment. ``This means that some fraudulent person is impersonating me and forging my signature for using the card,'' Wadekar has said. ``It is really amazing as tohow he is able to cheat the shopkeepers, especially when I am a well known cricketer of past being a former India player, captain, manager and now chairman of the selection committee for Indian team,'' he has stated.
The statement of purchases sent by the bank lists purchases of export garments and jewellery between January eight and 23 this year. Wadekar has sought the help of the Chennai Police Commissioner for arrest of the culprit and recovery of the amount billed to him.
