MUMBAI, FEB 9: An unemployed youth tried to commit suicide inside Mantralaya on Monday evening. However, his life was saved by an alert security guard who rushed him to hospital.Twenty-four-year-old Madhav Munde is a BA graduate. After failing to get a job in his native Parbhani, he had been knocking at the doors of the Labour Department for help for several days. However, his pleas fell on deaf ears.
On Tuesday, a frustrated Madhav managed to sneak inside Mantralaya, reached the door of chamber number 616 on the sixth floor at around 7.15 pm and consumed what is suspected to be rat poison.
A security guard, Kishore Waman Kharate (28), spotted Munde slumped on the floor, foaming at his mouth and writhing in pain. When he inquired Munde mumbled that he had consumed poison. The youth was immediately rushed to St Georges Hospital at Fort and taken into the intensive care unit.
Cuffe Parade police disclosed that Munde is now out of danger.
It was not known how Munde managed to get into Mantralaya whichis fitted with metal detector frames for all visitors. The hospital security staff did not allow this reporter to speak to Munde. The Cuffe Parade police station is investigating the matter.
